April 1, 1862
Bill McCaffery is the only Cincinnati player born on this date, and he pitched only one game for the Red Stockings in 1885—no foolin’. He won the game, pitching nine innings and allowing six earned runs on 13 hits. The Red Stockings finished second to the St. Louis Browns in the American Association that year; the Browns went on to play the Chicago White Stockings in the second ever World Series, which ended in a tie, 3-3-1.
