2013 TWJ Cards: Taco Bell All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball

2013 Strawberry

I love the All-Star Game for many reasons. One of which is the Taco Bell All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball game, bringing past stars of the diamond such as Darryl Strawberry back into the spotlight for a short time. For the past couple of years I have created cards to commemorate the exhibition and posted them here on the blog. This year, I’m moving them to the TWJ Cards tumblr. Every hour today until 11:00 eastern tonight, you will see a new “Taco Bell All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball” card pop up on the tumblr, from Dwight Gooden to Fred Lynn to Jennie Finch to Mallory Hagan to Frank Thomas, etc. There are 22 cards in all. Check them out each hour on the hour at TWJ Cards on tumblr.

Fun Cards: 2012 “Taco Bell Softball” Dave Winfield

Is it just me, or does Dave Winfield look completely ridiculous in a modern San Diego cap? Break out the brown and yellow!

Fun Cards: 2012 “Taco Bell Softball” Haley Reinhart

Another American Idol alum, Haley Reinhart. I didn’t watch the show when she was on it, and I ain’t never heard of her before.

Fun Cards: 2012 “Taco Bell Softball” Joe Carter

World Series hero, former star of the Indians, Padres, Blue Jays, and probably a few more teams that I’m forgetting, Joe Carter gives Chrissy Teigen some tips on hitting.

Fun Cards: 2012 “Taco Bell Softball” Chrissy Teigen @chrissyteigen

She’s a supermodel…I don’t really know anything else about her. She does have a Twitter account, and I found this particular Tweet from last week amusing:

Guys. I am working like…13 hour days so no I cannot hang out with you also i don’t know you really and I like being not murdered.

Still a ladies’ man at 63 years old, Steve Garvey gets a peck on the cheek from supermodel Chrissy Teigen.

Fun Cards: 2012 “Taco Bell Softball” David Cook

What’s a celebrity softball game without an American Idolator? David Cook won the American Idol popularity contest a few years ago, and has released a few albums.

Fun Cards: 2012 “Taco Bell Softball” Matt Cassel

The starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, Matt Cassel was a seventh-round draft pick for the New England Patriots in 2005. He was traded to the Chiefs after the 2008 season with Mike Vrabel for a draft pick (that was used to select Patrick Chung). In 2010 Cassel was a Pro Bowl selection.

Fun Cards: 2012 “Taco Bell Softball” Andre Dawson

Consider the awesome nicknames in baseball history: The Hammer. The Cobra. The Babe. The Hawk. You can’t deny the awesomeness of those monikers. Today’s nicknames just don’t measure up.

The Hawk, also known as Andre Dawson, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2010 after nine years on the ballot. I have to admit that I’m surprised it took him so long to get in, with a .279 batting average, 438 homers and 1591 RBI. His 1987 season was one for the ages, at least in the context of when he played: 49 home runs and 137 RBI for the cellar dwellin’ Cubbies.
