20 Years Ago Today: We returned to a galaxy far, far away

Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace

We waited 16 years…for this?

Even Ani and Padme had their doubts

Sure, The Phantom Menace featured one of the coolest-looking Star Wars villains ever, but then he was (supposedly) killed at the end. A couple of spoilers there I guess, sorry.

Darth Maul

And then there was Jar Jar Binks.

What was George Lucas thinking?

Yeah, that’s what he was thinking.

Star Wars movies

The Phantom Menace is now 20 years old. I’m glad George sold the rights to Disney, and I’m glad JJ Abrams gave us The Force Awakens in 2015 and will bring us The Rise of Skywalker later this year. Let’s not talk about The Last Jedi. Ever. Please. Thank you.

A quick update on the whole George Lucas 2012 fiasco…

According to a Lucasfilm rep, it was all a big joke, just like George’s daughter Katie said. But (and it’s a big but, just like Sir Mix-A-Lot likes)…

“…he is an adamant believer that the world is flat, that Stonehenge was built by aliens, and that the sun revolves around the Earth. These are among the many subjects he commonly discusses at length with Elvis, who he’s going to digitally insert into Indy 5 along with a roster of famous dead actors.”

That is per an e-mail that Lynne Hale, Lucasfilm rep, purportedly sent to

Elvis Presley hanging out with Indiana Jones? Hmmm…

Will the world end in 2012?

Do you believe George Lucas?

According to funnyman Seth Rogen, Star Wars creator Lucas apparently wouldn’t shut up about the Mayan prediction that the world will indeed end in 2012 at a recent movie meeting.

What does this mean about the future of Star Wars? Will we ever see the 3-D versions? Will episodes 7-9 (I mean VII-IX) see the light of day?

George’s daughter Katie tweeted that if the conversation even happened, it was “a joke, obviously”…and she’s sick of hearing about it.

My two cents: I don’t believe the world will end in 2012. Nor do I believe it will not end in 2012. It’s not for me to know…you just gotta live each day like it’s your last. Even if the world does end in 2012, who is to say that you or I will even be alive then?
