Happy Reds birthday, Corky Miller!

Corky Miller

March 18, 1976

Fan favorite Corky Miller spent the past two seasons as a coach for the Dayton Dragons. It appears from the Reds website that he is now the “Roving Catching Instructor” for the entire organization. Others who are employed in the club’s player development department include Eric Davis, Mario Soto, Miguel Cairo, Milt Thompson, and Hall of Famer Barry Larkin.

Fun Cards: 2012 Topps Corky Miller

Corky Miller, Cincinnati Reds catcher

It makes me sad that this guy probably won’t get a regular Topps card this year. While I’m a huge fan of Ryan Hanigan and I think Devin Mesoraco will be an All-Star someday, it’s difficult to not root for Corky Miller. Look at that ‘stache! Hands-down, the best facial hair in professional baseball since Rollie Fingers.

2011 Reds (’92 Style): Corky Miller (@Corky_Miller) [UPDATED]

The ‘stache makes him a fan favorite, and the ‘stache is the rest I chose the photo below. Catcher’s week continues with the third catcher on the team, Corky Miller (real name: Abraham* [see update below]). Even though he isn’t the everyday guy behind the plate, he can step in and do the job when Hanigan and Hernandez need a rest.

* UPDATE (from the man himself):

2010 Reds (’72 Style): Corky Miller

Marge Schott is rolling over in her grave because of Corky Miller’s facial hair.
