Before Josh Gibson earned his reputation as “the black Babe Ruth,” Cristóbal Torriente received acclaim as “the Babe Ruth of Cuba.” The large five-tool star was one of the first inductees in the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939, but he would have to wait until 2006 to be recognized by the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
