Happy Reds birthday, Hersh Freeman!

July 1, 1928

Hersh Freeman was one of the best relievers in baseball in 1956, and MVP voters recognized his contributions to the Reds as they mentioned his name on enough ballots to finish 13th, ahead of teammates Ted Kluszewski, Ed Bailey, and Brooks Lawrence. Freeman gained 14 victories in ’56, along with 17 saves and a 3.40 ERA. In his short career, he won 30 games and saved 36.

Other July 1 Reds birthdays:
Babe Young (1915)
Jack Quinn (1883)
