Happy Reds birthday, Roger Nelson!
June 7, 1944
The Mets roughed up Ross Grimsley, Tom Hall, and Dave Tomlin for nine runs on October 8 in the third game of the NLCS before Roger Nelson came in to quiet their bats in the fourth inning. He faced eight batters, allowing only one baserunner (Felix Milan on a walk). The Reds offense could not muster up any power, though, and the team lost the game 9-2. The series went the full five games, with the Mets coming out on top three games to two.
