Happy Reds birthday, Travis “Gookie” Dawins!

Mary 12, 1979

Travis Dawkins was a highly-touted player in the Reds minor league system, expected to replace Barry Larkin when the Hall of Famer retired. But Larkin kept playing well, and Dawkins was eventually placed on waivers. He only played at the highest level for the Reds and Royals, but “Gookie” attempted to catch on with a number of other teams throughout his career, including the Cubs, Tigers, Pirates, Mariners, Phillies, White Sox, and Marlins.
