Happy Reds birthday, Mike Lincoln!
April 10, 1975
Sometimes it may seem like I have a personal vendetta against relief pitchers, but I’m just looking at the numbers, man. Mike Lincoln pitched three years out of the bullpen for the Reds and his ERA was 5.73. Do you know how much he was paid for his services during those three years? A “measly” $4,550,000. Let that sink in. A guy who only has to pitch a few innings, and fails miserably at preventing runs, makes more than $4.5 million dollars in three years. It is truly mind boggling to me that someone can be paid that much to underperform to that level.
