Happy Reds birthday, Tom Hume!


March 29, 1953

Do you ever wonder where baseball card companies get some of their facts? On the reverse of Tom Hume’s 1979 card, it is claimed that he played a game at third base and a game at second base…in 1972 for the Reds’ A-class Tampa Tarpons. Why was such trivial information was retained for so long, and then forever immortalized on the back of his baseball card? In his 11 major league seasons, Hume never took the field in a position other than pitcher.
