Happy Reds birthday, Ryan Freel!

March 8, 1976

Ryan Freel was one of the toughest players on the field during his career, but his hard-nosed play resulted in a series of head and other injuries that cut his career short in 2009. He spent the majority of his career—six years—with the Reds, while he played a handful of games for the Blue Jays, Royals, Cubs, and Orioles. In 2012, Freel died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
