Happy Reds birthday, Roger Salkeld!

March 6, 1971

Roger Salkeld was a first-round pick for the Mariners in 1989 after an impressive high school career in Saugus, California, where he compiled a 38-9 record with a 1.40 ERA. During his entire high school career, Salkeld never allowed a triple or a home run. The Mariners traded Salkeld in 1995 to the Reds for Tim Belcher; in 29 games, he posted an 8-5 record with a 5.20 ERA. His grandfather was a catcher for the Pirates, Braves, and White Sox from 1945-1950.
