Happy Reds birthday, Tim Layana!

March 2, 1964

In his major league debut, Tim Layana struck out future Hall of Fame Craig Biggio, allowing one base runner but no runs in one inning against the Houston Astros. He pitched well in relief throughout the season, appearing in 55 games with a 3.49 ERA as the Reds marched to the World Series, but Layana was left off the postseason roster. He passed away in 1999 from injuries sustained in a car accident.
