Happy Reds birthday, Hal Chase!


February 13, 1883

In his first season in Cincinnati, Hal Chase led the National League in hits (184) and batting average (.339), beating out future Hall of Famers Zack Wheat, Max Carey, and Rogers Hornsby. He finished his career in 1919 with 2158 hits; 429 of those came as a member of the Reds. Chase played for the New York Highlanders/Yankees, Chicago White Sox, Buffalo Buffeds/Blues, Reds, and New York Giants.
