Happy Reds birthday, Kent Mercker!

February 1, 1968

Kent Mercker was a first round draft pick for the Braves in 1986, and enjoyed a long career in the major leagues for nine different teams. He called Cincinnati his home team on three separate occasions: 1997, 2003, and 2005-2008, each time signing as a free agent with the Reds. In five seasons with Cincinnati, Mercker was 13-15 with a 3.64 ERA in 207 games. He pitched two no-hitters in his career, both while a member of the Atlanta Braves; the first was a team effort with Mark Wohlers and Alejandro Pena.
