Happy Reds birthday, Jim Baumer!

January 29, 1931

Jim Baumer was a 1949 bonus baby for the Chicago White Sox. After appearing in eight games for Chicago in 1949, he went back to the minors and did not make the bigs again until 1961, eleven years later, with the Reds. He never could find his stride at the top level, playing in only ten games for Cincinnati before his big league career was finished. But Baumer found success with the Nishitetsu Lions in Japan, slugging 82 homers and 267 RBI from 1963-1967.
