Happy Reds birthday, Bob Borkowski!
January 27, 1926
Bob Borkowski began his professional career as a pitcher/outfielder, going 18-9 with a 3.46 ERA for the Elizabethtown Betsy Cubs of the Class D Appalachian League, while batting .384 with 12 homers in 114 games. He only pitched three more games in 1947 before switching to the outfield full-time, but that did not translate into major league success. He played two years for the Cubs, four for the Reds, splitting the 1955 season between the Redlegs and the Brooklyn Dodgers.
