Happy Reds birthday, Aaron Holbert!

January 9, 1973

The St. Louis Cardinals drafted Aaron Holbert in the first round in 1990, but he only played one game for the Cards in 1996. After bouncing around the minor league systems of the Mariners, Devil Rays, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Mariners (again), and Pirates, he signed with the Reds and appeared in 22 games for Cincinnati in 2005. The next year, after one more at-bat in Louisville, Holbert was offered and accepted the hitting instructor position for the Gulf Coast Reds.

In 2015, Jackson Free Press published an article chronicling Holbert’s long journey to the big leagues.
