Happy Reds birthday, Mike Cameron!

January 8, 1973

Mike Cameron was only a Red for a season, but was involved in one of the most famous trades in Cincinnati history. After eleven stellar seasons in Seattle, the Mariners shipped Cincinnati native to Ken Griffey Jr. to the Reds for Cameron (and Brett Tomko, Antonio Perez, and Jake Meyer). Griffey was a 10-time Gold Glove centerfielder for the Mariners, but never again won the award after the trade. Cameron received three Gold Gloves, two in Seattle and later one for the Padres. From 2000-2011 (after the trade), Cameron compiled 35.1 WAR while Griffey only added 13.0 to his career line from 2000-2010.
