Happy Reds birthday, Edwin Encarnacion!

January 7, 1983

The Rangers traded Edwin Encarnacion along with Ruben Mateo to the Reds in 2001 for pitcher Rob Bell. Encarnacion reached the majors four years later, and demonstrated power at the plate. Cincinnati later traded the slugger to Toronto with two other players for third baseman (and should-be future Hall of Famer) Scott Rolen. This offseason, he signed a three-year deal for $60 million with the Indians.

Encarnacion hit 71 of his 310 home runs while wearing a Reds uniform.
