Happy Reds birthday, Kevin Wickander!

January 4, 1965

Kevin Wickander‘s story is a sad and cautionary one. He lost his best friend, Steve Olin, to a boating accident in 1993; he was out of baseball just a few years later. While employed as a car salesman, Wickander got hooked on meth, and he was arrested for theft a few years later while rehabbing houses. It seems that he has cleaned up his act and is now living in Arizona. I do hope he has turned the corner and stays clean.

In his one partial season with Cincinnati, Wickander posted a 1-0 record and a 6.75 ERA in 33 games. Besides the Indians and Reds, Wickander pitched for the Tigers and the Brewers and the major league level. In 150 games, he only received one loss.
