Happy Reds birthday, Jay Tibbs!

January 4, 1962

Jay Tibbs displayed potential in his rookie season, winning six games in 14 starts with a 2.86 ERA, but he was not able to match that level again. The only other time he had a winning record was in 1989, when he went 5-0 in ten appearances for the Orioles. In two seasons with the Reds, Tibbs won 16 games and lost 18, with a 3.59 ERA. Besides the Reds and Orioles, he also played for the Expos and Pirates. In 1994, Tibbs appeared as a “teammate” in the movie Cobb, starring the fine actor Tommy Lee Jones.
