I love reading Writer’s Digest, with its many articles of encouragement, writing prompts and idea generators in each issue. The most recent issue contains an interview with Ransom Riggs, an author of a popular series of Young Adult novels. I found his advice to writers particularly relevant to how I have felt lately.
Just unclench, live your life and spend less time berating yourself. Anxiety and stress are the enemies of creativity.
I know this. Everyone knows this. But to hear it from a published, successful author makes it so much more real. I haven’t written enough lately, and I know it, and I get down on myself about it. But if I can just find a way to relax or “unclench,” then maybe I can remove those barriers to creativity.
