Old Crow Medicine Show – Carry Me Back (2012)

Old Crow Medicine Show
Carry me Back
ATO Records, 2012
37 minutes

The latest offering from bluegrass outfit Old Crow Medicine Show is a continuation of their already established success: strong songwriting and masterful musicianship. One would be hard-pressed to identify a weak track on this album, as each is played with equal parts precision and passion. It is just as difficult to identify the standouts for the same reason. Those more inclined to stomp their feet might enjoy “Bootlegger’s Boy” or “Mississippi Saturday Night,” but the slower-paced “Ain’t It Enough” is every bit as good. The band fools me every time I listen to “Country Gal,” as I want to start singing the Hank Williams classic “Hey Good Lookin'” during the chorus. Carry Me Back is a fine choice for any bluegrass or old-time country and western music fan.
