What year(s) were these cards released?

Reds legends Edd Roush, Eppa Rixey, and Ernie Lombardi are looking for a home in my binder.

I’m almost finished “bindering” all of my Reds cards, I’m not quite sure what year to stick these three cards in because there is no copyright date or release information on them. Can anyone help?

It looks like most eBay sellers indicate the Baseball Immortals set was released in 1981…but I know that can’t be the case for Lombardi, who wasn’t inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1986.

  1. 1980-1987 SSPC HOF
They were produced from 80-87 and usually distributed in Baseball Card Collecting Starter Kits. I would put them with 1980 but you can’t tell exactly when they came off the printing press.

  2. The original set was released I think in 1981. It contained all the HOF upto 1980.
However, there are updated cards of HOF thru 1986 or 1987. I believe that they were updated each year. I am not sure how they were sold to the public. Though I think I recall a dealer advertising an update set in a magazine in the early 1980s. I bought a complete set about 6 years ago of the set thru 1987. I have only seen complete sets thru the initial first printing and the final set in 1986 or 1987.

  3. 1980-1988 Baseball Immortals. It was first issued in 1980 by Renata Galasso & TCMA and updated to include new inductees. The designation “first printing” appears on cards issued in 1981 and after.

  4. You guys are absolutely fantastic.

I would like to keep them together in the binder. Since Lombardi has a 1986 banner on his card, I think I will put them in either the 1986 or 1987 section.

    Thanks for the info guys.

  5. The cards were put out in the 80s but ended in 87 with the last cards being inducted in 87 there are 199 cards in the set but the last group do not have the trivia question and do not say 1st printing you should have them at 1987 because that is the last printing date.
