2010 Reds (’72 Style): Chris Valaika

Rookie second-sacker Chris Valaika helped the Reds out in a pinch when Brandon Phillips missed a few days with a minor injury recently. He started every game August 27-31, and the team only lost one game in that stretch. Valaika banged out eight hits–including a double and a homer–in that stretch for a .364 average.

It’s really amazing how many rookies the Reds have employed this year that have contributed to the team’s success: Valaika, Chris Heisey, Mike Leake, Travis Wood, and of course, Aroldis Chapman.
