Documentary Tells Story Of Covington’s Brief Professional Baseball Past

Covington Blue Sox

Covington, KY had team in upstart 1913 Federal Baseball League

Covington, KY: Often cast in the baseball shadow of Cincinnati, OH in the late 19th and early 20th century, Covington, KY had long dreamed of having a big league baseball team to call their own. In the spring of 1913, after nearly four decades of almosts and could-have-beens, Covingtonians finally had a professional baseball club that could truly be called their hometown team. Although short-lived and merely a footnote in baseball annals, the Covington Blue Sox franchise of the upstart Federal League defied the odds and put the Kentucky river town on the baseball map alongside towns such as St. Louis, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Indianapolis.

Over a century after their debut, filmmaker Cam Miller has brought the Covington Blue Sox back to life with his film Our True Blues: The Story of the Covington Blue Sox. The documentary not only tells the incredible story of how this ill-fated team came to be, but sheds light on the city leaders, the forgotten players, the hastily constructed Federal Park and a proud city that has long since faded into Northern Kentucky history.

A special premiere screening event will be held at the Covington branch of the Kenton County Public Library at 7:00PM on July 31, 2014. The screening is free and open to the public.
