The story behind yesterday’s Joey Votto “fun card”

Yesterday, I posted a 1975 Topps “fun card” of Joey Votto submitted by TWJ reader Patrick. I did not know the reasoning for this particular card, and Patrick followed up with a link explaining the cartoonish image he used on the card. Votto, along with David Ortiz, Jimmy Rollins, Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier, will be appearing on the animated Fox program “The Cleveland Show.”

Major Leaguers on the Cleveland Show

I have never seen this program, but that might change this weekend (or early next week when the episode hits the network’s website). One of my favorite “Simpsons” episodes featured big leaguers Daryl Strawberry, Wade Boggs, and Ken Griffey, and it’s always a treat to see a local sports icon like Votto get some national attention.
