Fun cards

NOTE: The cards posted in this entry were not made by me, but by the bloggers linked in this post. If you want to compliment them, please visit their sites and compliment them there.

One of my favorite things to see on the baseball card blogs is what I can “fun cards.” Others call them “custom cards” or “tribute cards.” Whatever you call them, I think it shows both creativity and a love for this hobby to create them. I’ve posted several over the past couple of years. I’m currently in the middle of posting my 2009 Topps Reds cards featuring former Reds. I’ve made 35 so far, and have posted 13, so you’ll see at least 22 more over the next several weeks. I’m still looking for more photos, so if you know of a good source for vintage baseball shots let me know.

But I’m not the only one who does “fun cards,” and I’m far from the best. Dave at Goose Joak always has some interesting entries. This year he even started his own brand, and with the help of many in the blogosphere, has built quite an impressive checklist of 2009 players.

Steve over at White Sox Cards has a few different “fun card” sets going. There is the 2008 Photoshop Cards, his contributions to the 2009 Goose Joak set, a great set of WSC Birth Year cards, Cards That Never Were, and my personal favorite, WSC Vintage. Even though I’m not a ChiSox fan, I love anything that helps me learn more about the history of the game. These WSC Vintage cards are nothing short of spectacular.

And thanks to Steve, I’ve also discovered The Phillies Room! The Chachi sets are phenomenal, and they go all the way back to 2005! Definitely worth checking out this blog, and cast your vote for what Topps set should be the template for the 2010 Chachi set. My vote goes to 1983, but you are free to be wrong if you wish.

And another blog that I just now found is the Custom Card Blog, which is linked from GJ. I haven’t had time to explore the entire site, but I can tell already that I will enjoy browsing through the diversity on CCB! This may end up being the greatest custom card ever made.

  1. Wow! Thanks for all the links from the last two posts! I’m glad that someone likes the Vintage series besides me. Expect more of those during the offseason.

Try http://www.baseball-fever.com/index.php for photos. A lot of members embed rare photos in the threads. The 19th century thread is REALLY interesting.

  2. Yes, BBF has some great photos.

  3. Thanks JT!
